This is what the NHL was doing to track the hockey puck. I think it was Time Warner's idea and they were showing trace lines on television so that the puck would be easier to follow at high moving speeds. It was a very cool idea but fans hated it and it got scrapped. If they used similar technology they could determine the path of the ball and infer if the arm followed a circular motion or not. They might even be able to determine the spin if the chip has a sense of orientation. Would take away from all the controversy out of cricket which is part of the excitement.
